How to delete demo content after import

Once you have finished setting up and customizing your website, you might still have demo posts, categories, or pages on your WordPress site that are no longer needed. You can either delete them or set them to draft mode.

Also, check for duplicate pages. I’ve seen instances where people have three contact pages in their WordPress admin area, even though they only use one.

This is important because having unnecessary content can lead to several issues. For one, it can confuse your visitors, leading to a poor user experience. Additionally, every post or page on your site takes up space on your server and in your database. Too many unnecessary posts or pages can slow down your site’s performance, negatively affecting your search engine rankings and user experience. Moreover, search engines crawl your website to index your content. If you have many irrelevant or low-quality pages, it can dilute your SEO efforts and decrease your overall ranking. Removing these pages can help improve your site’s SEO.

If you’re hesitant about deleting unused pages, another option is to set them to draft mode. This action will unpublish the pages, making them invisible to both your site visitors and search engines. However, these pages will remain accessible in your WordPress admin area, allowing you the option to republish them in the future if needed.

How to delete demo blog posts or pages

  1. On your WordPress dashboard, go to Posts > All Posts
  2. In the category dropdown, select “sample category” and click the filter button
  3. Select all of the posts under that category
  4. In the bulk edit dropdown, select “move to trash” and click Apply

You would also want to check the permalinks of the posts, sample pages, and and sample categories. Sometimes, demo versions have “sample” in the permalink; you would want to either delete or modify these posts/pages/categories.
