How to Prevent Theme ZIP Files from Auto Extracting on Your Computer
Sometimes your computer might automatically extract a ZIP file right after download. This usually happens because some browsers (like Safari on macOS) are set to automatically unzip downloaded ZIP files. You can do either one of the following:
Option 1: Change the Safari’s auto unzip setting.
This is if you are using Safari browser on Mac to download the file.
- On Safari, go to Safari > Preferences (or Settings on newer versions).
- Under the General tab, uncheck the box that says “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading”.
- Try to re-download the theme ZIP file from the source link, and it should stay zipped.
Option 2: Zip the extracted folder manually.
- Locate the extracted theme folder on your computer.
- Right click the theme folder (usually named themename-kadence. For example if it’s a Wanderlust theme, the folder name would be wanderlust-kadence.
- Select Compress (Mac) or Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder (Windows).
- This will create a new ZIP file, and the name should be themename-kadence.zip.
Once you’ve successfully downloaded the ZIP file, go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme to upload it. Then, follow the next step in the installation guide.
