How to use Portfolio Custom Post Type
About Portfolio CPT
All our Kadence Child Themes include an additional feature known as the Portfolio Custom Post Type. This provides you with a unique section on your website where you can showcase your work or projects. This section is separate from the regular blog posts area, helping to keep your site tidy and well-organized. However, using this portfolio feature is not mandatory. If you’d prefer, you can just use normal blog posts with specific categories to display your work. Ultimately, the choice is yours and depends on what best suits your needs!
Portfolio settings
The settings for Portfolio can be found on:
- Appearance > Customizer > Sheshoppes Settings > Portfolio
This is where you can disable or enable portfolio on your website, change the title on your archive page, and change the portfolio slug.
How to update Portfolio slugs

To activate the Portfolio feature, ensure the ‘Enable Portfolio CPT‘ box is ticked.
Index Slug: The default slug, or URL ending, for Portfolio CPT is “portfolio”. This means that the archive URL will end with /portfolio. Feel free to change this to whatever fits your preference.
Category Slug: The Portfolio CPT allows for custom categories. The default slug for these categories is ‘project-type’. This can also be modified according to your preferences.
Remember, whenever you update your slugs, it’s crucial to also refresh your permalinks. You can do this by navigating to Settings > Permalinks and clicking ‘Save Changes‘, without actually making any changes on the permalink page. This step ensures your website remains up-to-date and functioning smoothly.
How to add a Portfolio item
On your WordPress dashboard, go to Portfolios > Add New Post.

Enter your gallery title in the Title section, just like when you are writing a new post. Next, click the Design Library button.

Click your theme name’s tab, I’m using Blissful as example, and click the Gallery or Portfolio tab in the menu. You will be able to see the available template designs for gallery or portfolio page, click one that you want to insert to your page.

Edit the content as you wish.

Before publishing, remember to set a featured image for this Portfolio page. This image will serve as the cover for each portfolio item displayed in the query loop. Simply click on the Portfolio tab, scroll down, and select the ‘Featured Image‘ tab.
Click the ‘Set featured image‘ button and proceed with the instructions.
How to customize Portfolio query loop in your Custom Portfolio Index
We have recently updated some of our themes to include the Portfolio Query Loop feature. The Query Loop is a tool that allows for the display of portfolio items anywhere on your site, even outside of their own archive, complete with pagination.

You can select the number of posts displayed per page in your Portfolio Query Loop block. In your Document Overview, click on the Query Loop section, then click on the icon marked by the red arrow above. Enter your desired number in the ‘items per page’ field.
You can change the number of columns displayed on a Query Loop by clicking Post Template, and enter the number of columns you wish in the column settings.
Save your changes.
